Factors for monitoring and investigating saltwater intrusion in Vietnam - Illustrative Image
Article 5 of Circular 39/2016/TT-BTNMT regulates the factors for monitoring and investigating saltwater intrusion in Vietnam, including:
Direct measurement factors
- Salinity;
- Depth.
Direct measurement or collection factors:
- Water level;
- Water temperature;
- Rainfall;
- Collection of information on weather, location, and characteristics of the surveyed river segment (riverbed erosion, discharge sources on both riverbanks), and historical salinity intrusion situations.
Additionally, Article 6 of Circular 39/2016/TT-BTNMT stipulates the measuring equipment, intrustments, and vehicles used for monitoring and investigating saltwater intrusion in Vietnam as follows:
Measuring equipment:
- Salinity meter: ensuring accuracy of 0.1 ‰;
- Depth meter: ensuring accuracy of 1 cm;
- GPS locator: ensuring accuracy ± 3 m horizontal.
Intrustments and vehicles:
- Specialized sample collection tool by layer;
- Depth measuring pole or rope with plummet (used in the absence of a depth meter);
- Kit and chemicals for determining salinity using Silver Nitrate AgNO3 method (used in the absence of a salinity meter);
- Boats, ships, and other floating means for serving the monitoring and surveying.
