Criteria for Awarding the “For the Cause of Education” Commemorative Medal

Circular 22/2018/TT-BGDDT guiding the emulation and commendation work in the Education sector was promulgated on August 28, 2018. This Circular stipulates specific standards for awarding the "For the Cause of Education" commemorative medal.

To be specific, according to the regulations in Article 6 of Circular 22/2018/TT-BGDDT, the commemorative medal “For the Cause of Education” is a form of commendation from the Minister of Education and Training, awarded once to individuals both within and outside the education sector, who meet one of the following criteria:

1. Individuals within the Education Sector

- Have at least 20 years of service in the education sector and have completed their assigned tasks well;- Those working in areas with especially difficult socio-economic conditions, poor districts enjoying policies as prescribed for areas with especially difficult socio-economic conditions, are considered for award 5 years earlier than the stipulated time frame under point a of this clause;- Those who are studying or doing military service while in the education sector, and then continue to work in the education sector, will have their time in study or military service counted as service time in the education sector for the purpose of awarding the commemorative medal;- Individuals with the required service time as stipulated in point a of this clause but disciplined with reprimand to below dismissal level can only be considered for the commemorative medal 2 years after the disciplinary decision is annulled. The disciplinary period will not be counted towards the service time for the commemorative medal;- Individuals who have retired under social insurance benefits, with commendation proposals to be considered by the managing body before retirement. For those who retired under social insurance benefits and whose units have been dissolved or merged, the units taking over their tasks are responsible for processing the commendation proposals.

2. Individuals outside the Education Sector: those who have held key leadership positions in the Communist Party, government, or unions for at least one term and have made significant contributions in leading, directing, and supporting the development of the education sector; or have made significant financial, material contributions to the development of the education sector, recognized by the Department of Education and Training and the benefiting unit.

3. Vietnamese expatriates and foreigners who have made positive contributions to the construction and development of Vietnam's education and training sector, strengthening friendly and cooperative relations between Vietnamese education and other countries and international organizations.
