Cooked food for seafarers must be hygienically covered

Circular 40/2017/TT-BYT was issued by the Ministry of Health on October 23, 2017, specifically regulating hygiene and safety for cooked food and ready-to-eat meals for seafarers.

Accordingly, Circular 40 provides detailed regulations on hygiene and safety for cooked foods and ready-to-eat foods for crew members as follows:

- Must be hygienically covered to prevent flies, dust, rain, sunshine, and harmful insects and animals.- There must be a heating measure to ensure safety before consumption for cooked foods and ready-to-eat foods if more than 4 hours have passed since preparation.

At the same time, Circular 40 also stipulates hygiene and safety for drinking water as follows:

- Drinking water and readily used ice produced and used aboard sea vessels must conform to the prevailing National Technical Regulations.- Bottled drinking water, bottled water, and readily used ice used aboard sea vessels:

- Must have a clear origin and possess a Certificate of Compliance according to regulations;- Must have full information on the product label;- Must be stored appropriately as per the manufacturer’s instructions on the product label.
