Recently, the Ministry of Education and Training issued Circular 26/2008/TT-BGDDT providing guidelines on the order and procedures for awarding the honorary doctorate title.
Conditions to be awarded an honorary doctorate title (illustrative image)
Circular 26/2008/TT-BGDDT stipulates the conditions for being awarded an honorary doctorate title as follows:
- For educators and scientists: Vietnamese expatriates abroad or foreigners who have made significant contributions to the education and science sectors in Vietnam, recognized and agreed upon by a doctoral training institution (hereinafter referred to as a doctoral training institution) in Vietnam to award the honorary doctorate title;- For political and social activists: internationally renowned individuals with significant achievements and contributions to the fostering of friendship and socio-economic development of Vietnam, proposed by the respective Embassy to be awarded the honorary doctorate title and approved by a doctoral training institution.
The awarding of the honorary doctorate title aims to honor and acknowledge the contributions of internationally renowned political and social activists, as well as Vietnamese expatriate educators and scientists abroad, and foreigners who contribute to the education and science sectors of Vietnam; to enhance friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and other countries.
