Recently, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of Vietnam promulgated Circular 47/2014/TT-BTNMT on technical regulations on administrative maps of all levels, including the regulations on the Governmental atlases in Vietnam.

Under Clause 3, Article 13 of Circular 47/2014/TT-BTNMT, the regulations on the Governmental atlases in Vietnam are as follows:
- Governmental atlases must convey all required administrative divisions in their entirety and may include secondary maps, statistics tables to clarify specialized information that is not included in primary maps;
- Arrangement of maps within governmental atlases must comply with the following principle: From general to specific; from higher levels to lower levels; from overview to specific; from higher parallel to lower parallel, from lower meridian to higher meridian;
- Layout of each page in governmental atlases must be complete, consistent, and appropriate to each type of administrative maps according to Clause 1 and Clause 2 of this Article;
- Structure of nationwide governmental atlases: Cover; secondary cover; publishing procedures; preface; table of content; symbol, nationwide administrative map; provincial-level administrative maps; list of administrative divisions, area, population of provincial-level and district-level administrative divisions; lookup table for locations included in the atlases;
- Structure of provincial-level governmental atlases: Cover; secondary cover; publishing procedures; preface; table of content; symbol, provincial-level administrative maps; district-level administrative maps; list of administrative divisions, area, population of district-level and commune-level administrative divisions;
- Structure of district-level governmental atlases: Cover; secondary cover; publishing procedures; preface; table of content; symbol; commune-level maps, list of administrative destinations, area and population of commune-level administrative divisions; lookup table for locations included in the atlases;
