What You Should Know About Vietnam Visas

Requesting the Consulting Board to provide me with some information about our country's visas issued to foreigners. Is there any document regulating this information? Looking forward to receiving a response soon. Thank you!

Legal Basis: Law on Entry, Exit, Transit, and Residence of Foreigners in Vietnam 2014

1. What is a Visa?

A visa is a type of document issued by a competent authority of Vietnam, allowing foreigners to enter Vietnam.

2. Validity and Form of Visas

- A visa may be valid for single or multiple entries and cannot be converted for other purposes.

- A visa is issued separately for each person, except in the case of children under 14 years of age who are included in a passport with a parent or guardian.

- Visas are stamped into a passport or issued separately.

3. Visa Symbols and Validity

1 NG1 Issued to members of delegations invited by the General Secretary of the Central Executive Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the President, the Chairperson of the National Assembly, and the Prime Minister of the Government of Vietnam. Not exceeding 12 months.
2 NG2 Issued to members of delegations invited by the Standing Committee of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the Vice President, the Vice Chairperson of the National Assembly, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of Vietnam, the Chairperson of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, the Chief Justice of the Supreme People’s Court, the Head of the Supreme People’s Procuracy, the Auditor General of the State; members of delegations of the same rank as ministers and equivalent, Secretaries of provincial and municipal party committees, Chairpersons of People's Councils, Chairpersons of People’s Committees of provinces and cities under central authority. Not exceeding 12 months.
3 NG3 Issued to members of diplomatic missions, consular offices, representative offices of international organizations under the United Nations, intergovernmental organizations, and their accompanying spouses, children under 18 years old, and servants during the term. Not exceeding 12 months.
4 NG4 Issued to persons employed by diplomatic missions, consular offices, representative offices of international organizations under the United Nations, and intergovernmental organizations; persons visiting members of diplomatic missions, consular offices, representative offices of international organizations under the United Nations, and intergovernmental organizations. Not exceeding 12 months.
5 LV1 Issued to persons working with Party organizations, central agencies, and units belonging to the Communist Party of Vietnam; the National Assembly, the Government of Vietnam, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, the Supreme People’s Court, the Supreme People’s Procuracy, the State Audit, ministries, ministerial-level agencies, and agencies under the Government of Vietnam; provincial and municipal party committees, People's Councils, People’s Committees of provinces and cities under central authority. Not exceeding 12 months.
6 LV2 Issued to persons working with socio-political organizations, social organizations, and the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Not exceeding 12 months.
7 DT Issued to foreign investors in Vietnam and foreign lawyers practicing in Vietnam. Not exceeding 5 years.
8 DN Issued to persons working with enterprises in Vietnam. Not exceeding 12 months.
9 NN1 Issued to heads of representative offices or projects of international organizations, NGOs in Vietnam. Not exceeding 12 months.
10 NN2 Issued to heads of representative offices, branches of foreign traders, representative offices of foreign economic, cultural, or professional organizations in Vietnam. Not exceeding 12 months.
11 NN3 Issued to persons working with foreign NGOs, representative offices, branches of foreign traders, representative offices of foreign economic, cultural, and professional organizations in Vietnam. Not exceeding 12 months.
12 DH Issued to persons attending internships and studies. Not exceeding 12 months.
13 HN Issued to persons attending conferences and seminars. Not exceeding 3 months.
14 PV1 Issued to permanent journalists, press correspondents in Vietnam. Not exceeding 12 months.
15 PV2 Issued to journalists, press correspondents on short-term assignments in Vietnam. Not exceeding 12 months.
16 LD Issued to persons entering to work. Not exceeding 2 years.
17 DL Issued to persons entering for tourism. Not exceeding 3 months.
18 TT Issued to foreigners who are spouses, children under 18 of foreigners granted visas with symbols LV1, LV2, DT, NN1, NN2, DH, PV1, LD or foreigners who are parents, spouses, children of Vietnamese citizens. Not exceeding 12 months.
19 VR Issued for visiting relatives or with other purposes. Not exceeding 6 months.
20 SQ Heads of competent visa-issuing agencies of Vietnam abroad issue visas valid for no more than 30 days for foreigners wishing to enter Vietnam to survey the market, for tourism, to visit relatives, for medical treatment in the following cases:


+ Persons having work relations with the competent Vietnamese visa-issuing agency abroad and their spouses, children thereof or persons with an invitation letter from a competent body of the local Department of Foreign Affairs;


+ Persons guaranteed by diplomatic missions, consular offices of countries located in the host country.
Not exceeding 30 days.

Note:

- Expired visas may be considered for a new visa issuance.

- Visa validity is at least 30 days shorter than the validity of the passport or international travel document.
