Based on Article 22 of the Law on Organization of the People's Court 2024 stipulating the traditional day and emblem of the People's Court:
Article 22. Traditional day and emblem of the People's Court
- The traditional day of the People's Court is September 13 every year.
- The People's Court has its own emblem. The Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Court shall stipulate the emblem of the People's Court.
Thus, September 13 every year is chosen as the traditional day of the People's Court. According to the perpetual calendar, September 13, 2024, corresponds to August 11, 2024, in the lunar calendar.
The traditional day of the People's Court is September 13 annually. This day is chosen to commemorate the establishment and development of the Vietnamese People's Court system.
Every year, on this day, the court system nationwide organizes various activities to honor and review the development process, thereby orienting future reforms to improve the quality of judicial activities.

What are the duties and powers of the People's Court in Vietnam?
Based on Article 3 of the Law on Organization of the People's Court 2024 stipulating the duties and powers of the People's Court in Vietnam as follows:
- The People's Court exercises judicial power including trial, adjudication of disputes, legal violations, and issues related to human rights and the rights and obligations of agencies, organizations, and individuals according to the law; ensuring the uniform application of the law in adjudication.
- When exercising judicial power, the People's Court in Vietnam has the following duties and powers:
+ Adjudicating and resolving criminal cases, administrative cases, civil matters (including civil cases and civil requests), bankruptcy matters, and other cases and matters according to the law
+ Resolving and adjudicating administrative violations according to the law
+ Deciding issues related to human rights and the rights and obligations of agencies, organizations, and individuals according to the law
+ Identifying and recommending the constitutionality and legality of legal normative documents in adjudication, resolving cases and matters according to the law
+ Interpreting the application of the law in adjudication, resolving cases and matters
+ Summarizing adjudication practices, ensuring consistent application of the law in adjudication; developing case law
+ Performing duties and exercising powers regarding enforcement of judgments according to the law
+ Performing other duties and exercising powers according to the law
Are employees in Vietnam entitled to paid leave on September 13, 2024?
Based on Article 112 of the Labor Code 2019 stipulating holidays and Tet as follows:
Article 112. Holidays and Tet
1. Employees are entitled to paid leave on the following holidays and Tet:
a) New Year's Day: 01 day (January 01 of the Gregorian calendar);
b) Lunar New Year: 05 days;
c) Victory Day: 01 day (April 30 of the Gregorian calendar);
d) International Labor Day: 01 day (May 01 of the Gregorian calendar);
dd) National Day: 02 days (September 02 of the Gregorian calendar and 01 day immediately before or after);
e) Hung Kings' Commemoration Day: 01 day (March 10 of the lunar calendar).
2. Foreign employees working in Vietnam, in addition to the holidays specified in Clause 1 of this Article, are entitled to 01 traditional New Year day and 01 National Day of their country.
3. Annually, based on actual conditions, the Prime Minister of the Government of Vietnam shall decide specific holidays for the provisions at Points b and d, Clause 1 of this Article.
Thus, employees in Vietnam will be entitled to paid leave on the following holidays:
- New Year's Day
- Lunar New Year
- Victory Day
- International Labor Day
- National Day
- Hung Kings' Commemoration Day
In addition, foreign employees working in Vietnam, in addition to the above holidays, are entitled to 01 traditional New Year day and 01 National Day of their country.
Thus, September 13, 2024, is not a holiday for employees. Therefore, employees will still have to work if they are scheduled to do so.
Note: The Law on Organization of the People's Court 2024 takes effect in Vietnam from January 01, 2025
