According to Clause 8, Article 11 of Decree 137/2020/ND-CP (amended by Clause 2, Article 3 of Decree 56/2023/ND-CP) on the circumstances for organizing fireworks displays:

Article 11. Circumstances for organizing fireworks displays

  1. Commemoration of the liberation day, founding day of central-affiliated city and provinces

a) Central-affiliated city and Thua Thien Hue province are authorized to launch high-altitude and low-altitude fireworks for durations not exceeding 15 minutes; other provinces are authorized to launch low-altitude fireworks for durations not exceeding 15 minutes;

b) The time for firing is 21:00 on the commemoration day, founding day of central-affiliated city and provinces.

  1. Events of national and international cultural, tourism, and sporting significance.
  1. Other cases as decided by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism after a coordinated agreement with the Ministry of Public Security and the Ministry of National Defense.

According to Clause 3, Article 12 of Decree 137/2020/ND-CP (amended by Clause 3, Article 3 of Decree 56/2023/ND-CP) on the authority and procedures for permitting firework displays:

Article 12. Authority and procedures for permitting firework displays

Provinces and cities under central control desiring to organize fireworks displays according to Clause 7 and Clause 8 of Article 11 of this Decree, or intending to adjust the shooting range or duration, must submit a written proposal to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism at least 30 days before the intended fireworks display date, clearly stating the quantity, shooting range, number of firing points, timing, duration, and the proposed location for the fireworks.

Within 5 working days from receipt, the Ministry of Public Security and the Ministry of National Defense will provide written feedback for the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to compile and make a decision.

According to the above regulations, New Year's Day is not typically a date for fireworks displays. However, New Year's Day 2025 fireworks can occur if the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism decides to do so after coordination with the Ministry of Public Security and the Ministry of National Defense.

How long are fireworks on Lunar New Year 2025 in Vietnam?

According to Clause 1, Article 11 of Decree 137/2020/ND-CP on circumstances for organizing fireworks displays:

Article 11. Circumstances for organizing fireworks displays

  1. Lunar New Year's Eve

a) Cities under central control and Thua Thien Hue province are permitted to launch high-altitude and low-altitude fireworks for durations not exceeding 15 minutes; other provinces are permitted to launch low-altitude fireworks for durations not exceeding 15 minutes;

b) The firing time falls at the Lunar New Year's Eve.

  1. Hung Kings' Commemoration Day

a) Phu Tho province is allowed to launch low-altitude fireworks for durations not exceeding 15 minutes at Hung Temple;

b) The firing time is at 21:00 on March 9 of the lunar calendar.
