What is the required standard level of education for teachers in Vietnam?
Based on Article 72 of the Education Law 2019, the required standard level of education for teachers is regulated as follows:
Article 72. Required Standard Level of Education for Teachers
- The required standard level of education for teachers is specified as follows:
a) Having a diploma from a pedagogical college or higher for preschool teachers;
b) Having a bachelor's degree in teacher training or higher for elementary, middle, and high school teachers.
In case the subject lacks teachers with a bachelor's degree in teacher training, they must possess an appropriate bachelor's degree and an additional pedagogical training certificate;
c) Holding a master's degree for university-level lecturers; a doctoral degree for teachers guiding master's theses and doctoral dissertations;
d) The required standard level of education for teachers in vocational education institutions is implemented according to the Vocational Education Law.
- The Government of Vietnam stipulates the roadmap for upgrading the training standards for preschool, elementary, and middle school teachers as required in points a and b, clause 1 of this Article. The Minister of Education and Training, the Minister of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs, within their tasks and authority, shall prescribe the use of teachers in case they do not meet the requirements of clause 1 of this Article.
According to the above regulations, the required standard level of education for teachers is as follows:
- Having a diploma from a pedagogical college or higher for preschool teachers
- Having a bachelor's degree in teacher training or higher for elementary, middle, and high school teachers
- Having a master's degree for university-level lecturers; a doctoral degree for teachers guiding master's theses and doctoral dissertations
- The required standard level of education for teachers in vocational education institutions is implemented according to the Vocational Education Law
Which institutions are responsible for training and retraining teachers in Vietnam?
Pursuant to Article 74 of the Education Law 2019, educational institutions responsible for training and retraining teachers and education managers are specified:
Article 74. Educational Institutions Responsible for Training and retraining Teachers and Education Managers
- Institutions responsible for training and retraining teachers include teacher training schools, educational institutions with pedagogical faculties, and institutions permitted to train and foster teachers.
- Institutions responsible for training and retraining education managers include teacher training schools, universities with educational management faculties, and institutions permitted to train and foster education managers.
- Teacher training schools established by the State for training and retraining teachers and education managers are prioritized for recruiting teachers, appointing education managers, investment in infrastructure, dormitories, and ensuring training funds. These schools may have practice schools or practice facilities.
- The Minister of Education and Training, the Minister of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs, within their duties and authority, shall regulate the tasks of training and retraining teachers, education managers, and the institutions permitted to conduct such training and retraining activities.
According to the above regulations, institutions responsible for training and retraining teachers include teacher training schools, educational institutions with pedagogical faculties, and institutions permitted to train and foster teachers.
