Is it mandatory to join the Association of Elderly People?
At Article 9 of the Charter of the Elderly Association issued together with Decision 972/QD-BNV in 2017, the regulations regarding the association members of the Elderly Association are as follows:
Vietnamese citizens aged 60 (sixty) years and above, who approve of the Charter of the Association, voluntarily join the Association, and are approved by the sub-association or the Executive Committee of the local Elderly Association (where there is no sub-association), shall be recognized as members and granted membership cards. In the case of Vietnamese citizens aged 55 (fifty-five) years to under 60 (sixty) years, who voluntarily and actively participate in the Association or are appointed to undertake Association tasks, they will be considered for membership recognition.
=> Therefore, according to the aforementioned regulations, participation in the Elderly Association is based on voluntary and self-motivated principles upon reaching a certain age. The law does not mandate compulsory participation.
