In which cases are fireworks permitted in Vietnam?
Based on Article 11 of Decree 137/2020/ND-CP (amended by Clause 2 Article 3 of Decree 56/2023/ND-CP), the cases in which fireworks are permitted include:
[1] Tet (Lunar New Year)
- central-affiliated cities and Thua Thien Hue province are permitted high and low altitude fireworks, duration not exceeding 15 minutes; other provinces are allowed low altitude fireworks only, duration not exceeding 15 minutes.
- Fireworks are set off at the stroke of midnight on Lunar New Year's Eve.
[2] Hung Kings’ Commemoration Day
- Phu Tho Province is allowed to set off low altitude fireworks, duration not exceeding 15 minutes, at the Hung Temple area.
- Fireworks begin at 9 PM on the 10th day of the third lunar month.
[3] National Day
- central-affiliated cities and Thua Thien Hue province are permitted high and low altitude fireworks, duration not exceeding 15 minutes; other provinces are allowed low altitude fireworks only, duration not exceeding 15 minutes.
- Fireworks begin at 9 PM on September 2.
[4] Dien Bien Phu Victory Day
- Dien Bien Province may set off low altitude fireworks, duration not exceeding 15 minutes, held in Dien Bien Phu City.

[5] Victory Day (April 30 on the solar calendar)

- The cases for fireworks as specified in Clauses 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 of Article 11 of this Decree are decided by the People's Committees of the provinces, central-affiliated cities based on the actual local situation and cooperate with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to organize implementation according to regulations.
