Details of the Vietnam National Day Holiday on September 2, 2024
Based on Section 5 of the Announcement 5015/TB-LDTBXH in 2023 about the Lunar New Year and Vietnam National Day Holidays for 2024 for officials and public employees and employees:
5. For employees not covered under Section 1 of this Announcement, employers decide on the options for the Lunar New Year and Vietnam National Day Holidays in 2024 as follows:
- For the Lunar New Year holiday: choose 01 day at the end of the Year of the Rabbit and 04 days at the beginning of the Year of the Dragon or 02 days at the end of the Year of the Rabbit and 03 days at the beginning of the Year of the Dragon or 03 days at the end of the Year of the Rabbit and 02 days at the beginning of the Year of the Dragon.
- For the Vietnam National Day Holiday: Monday, September 02, 2024, Gregorian calendar and choose 01 of the following 02 days: Sunday, September 01, 2024, or Tuesday, September 03, 2024, Gregorian calendar.
- Notify the plan for the Lunar New Year and Vietnam National Day Holidays in 2024 to employees at least 30 days before implementation.
- If the weekly day off coincides with a holiday or Tet as specified in Clause 1, Article 112 of the Labor Code, employees are entitled to a compensatory day off on the next working day as specified in Clause 3, Article 111 of the Labor Code.
- Encouraging employers to apply the Lunar New Year holiday for employees as stipulated for officials and public employees.
According to the above regulations, the Vietnam National Day Holiday on September 02, 2024, for employees is as follows:
- Officials, public employees, and employees in political-social organizations and administrative agencies: Officially have the Vietnam National Day Holiday in 2024 from Saturday, August 31, 2024, to the end of Tuesday, September 03, 2024, Gregorian calendar. This includes 02 Vietnam National Day Holidays and 02 weekly days off.
Note: The above holiday schedule applies to employees who have both Saturday and Sunday off.
- For employees outside the administrative, non-business agencies, political organizations, and political-social organizations working on Saturday, the holiday is from September 01, 2024, to September 03, 2024 (03 days).

Are foreign employees in Vietnam entitled to Vietnam National Day Holiday on September 2, 2024?
Based on Article 112 of the Labor Code 2019 on holidays and Tet:
Article 112. Holidays and Tet
- employees are entitled to a day off with full pay on the following holidays and Tet:
a) New Year's Day: 01 day (January 01, Gregorian calendar);
b) Lunar New Year: 05 days;
c) Victory Day: 01 day (April 30, Gregorian calendar);
d) International Labor Day: 01 day (May 01, Gregorian calendar);
dd) National Day: 02 days (September 02, Gregorian calendar, and 01 adjacent day before or after);
e) Hung Kings' Anniversary: 01 day (March 10, lunar calendar).
2. Foreign employees working in Vietnam are entitled to an additional day off for their traditional national day and 01 day for their own National Day besides the holidays specified in Clause 1 of this Article.
- Annually, based on actual conditions, the Prime Minister of the Government of Vietnam decides the specific holidays mentioned in points b and đ of Clause 1 of this Article.
Accordingly, foreign employees in Vietnam will also get the Vietnam National Day Holiday on September 02, 2024. Additionally, apart from the holidays like Vietnamese employees, they will be entitled to an extra day off for their own traditional national day and their National Day.
Will there be fireworks on Vietnam National Day September 2?
Based on Article 11 of the Decree 137/2020/ND-CP governing cases for fireworks displays:
Article 11. Cases for Fireworks Displays
- Lunar New Year
a) Cities under central authority and Thua Thien Hue province can hold high and low-altitude fireworks displays lasting no more than 15 minutes; other provinces can hold low-altitude displays lasting no more than 15 minutes;
b) The display time is during the Lunar New Year's Eve.
- Hung Kings' Anniversary
a) Phu Tho province can hold low-altitude fireworks displays lasting no more than 15 minutes at the Hung Temple area;
b) The display time is 21:00 on March 09, lunar calendar.
- National Day
a) Cities under central authority and Thua Thien Hue province can hold high and low-altitude fireworks displays lasting no more than 15 minutes; other provinces can hold low-altitude displays lasting no more than 15 minutes;
b) The display time is 21:00 on September 02.

According to the above regulations, on National Day September 02, fireworks displays will be organized with high and low-altitude fireworks in cities under central authority and Thua Thien Hue province, while other provinces can hold low-altitude displays.
