Certificate: How many points on the Aptis test are required to qualify for an international tour guide license?
Section 2, Article 59 of the Tourism Law 2017 stipulates the conditions for granting international tour guide cards, which include:
- Conditions specified in points a, b, and c, Clause 1 of this Article;
- Graduated from college or higher majoring in tour guiding; in the case of graduating from college or higher in another major, one must have an international tour guiding professional certificate;
- Proficient in the foreign language registered for practice.
Regarding the regulation on foreign language proficiency, Article 13 of Circular 06/2017/TT-BVHTTDL, amended by Clause 10 Article 1 of Circular 13/2019/TT-BVHTTDL, provides the following guidance:
A person who is proficient in a foreign language as stipulated in point c, Clause 2, Article 59 of the Tourism Law is a person who meets one of the following standards:
a) Holds a graduation degree of college or higher majoring in foreign languages;
b) Holds a graduation degree of college or higher from a training program conducted in a foreign language;
c) Holds a graduation degree of college or higher from abroad conducted in the official language of the host country. In the case of training conducted in a language other than the official language of the host country, it is necessary to provide additional documents proving the language used for training;
d) Holds a foreign language certificate of Level 4 or higher according to the 6-level Foreign Language Proficiency Framework for Vietnam or a foreign language certificate meeting the required level as specified in Appendix I of this Circular, still valid, granted by a competent authority or organization.

Thus, an Aptis Certificate with 151 points or higher meets the conditions for being granted an international tour guide card (for English as the registered foreign language for practice).
