Can Minority Ethnic Journalists Obtain a Press Card?
According to Clause 3, Article 26 of the Press Law 2016, you, as a reporter of a press agency or news agency, are eligible to be considered for the issuance of a press card.
According to Clause 1, Article 27 of the Press Law 2016, you must meet the following conditions and standards to be considered for the issuance of a press card:
- Be a Vietnamese citizen with a permanent residence in Vietnam;
- Hold a university degree or higher; in case of ethnic minorities working on printed newspaper publications, radio, and television programs, or specialized pages of electronic newspapers in ethnic minority languages, a college degree or higher is required;
- For the first-time issuance, you must have at least 2 years of continuous work at the press agency requesting the card issuance, counted up to the time of consideration for card issuance, except for the editor-in-chief of scientific journals and other cases as prescribed by law;
- Be recommended by the press agency or the work agency for the issuance of the press card.
Therefore, if you have only worked at the press agency for 1 year, you are not yet eligible to be considered for the issuance of a press card.
