Are Director of television station required to have university degrees in Vietnam? I'm being nominated for this position so I want to know so I can prepare. Please advise, thank you.
1. Are Director of television station required to have university degrees in Vietnam?
Clause 2, Article 23 of the Press Law 2016 provides the following:
2. Standards for appointment of head of press agency are:
a) Is the Vietnamese citizen with permanent address in Vietnam;
b) Graduated from university or higher education. For the head of press agency of religious organization, this standard does not apply;
c) Has a valid press card. For the head of press agency of religious organization or scientific organization, this standard does not apply;
d) Has good moral quality and is not under the exercise of discipline from the form of reprimand or heavier in accordance with the regulations of law on public servants and officials and labor law.
Thus, for director of a television station (also known as head of press agency), graduation from university or higher education is required. However, for the head of press agency of religious organization, this standard does not apply in Vietnam.
2. Can Director of television station be granted a press card in Vietnam?
In Clause 1, Article 26 of the 2016 Press Law, it is stipulated as follows:
1. The general director, deputy general director, director, deputy director, editor-in-chief and deputy chief editor of press agencies and news agencies.
Thus, the director of television station is granted a press card in Vietnam.
3. Is it possible to assume the position of deputy head of other press agencies while working as director of television station in Vietnam?
In Clause 6, Article 24 of the 2016 Press Law, it is stipulated as follows:
6. Must not assume the position of head or deputy head of other press agencies.
Thus, a person who is working as a director of television station will not be allowed to assume the position of deputy head of other press agencies in Vietnam.
