Purchasing Sex with a 16-Year-Old: Are There Additional Fines Apart from Imprisonment?
Article 329 of the Criminal Code 2015 stipulates the Crime of purchasing sex with persons under 18 years old, as follows:
Anyone 18 years of age or older who purchases sex with a person under the age of 18, except for the case stipulated at point b, clause 1, Article 142 of this Code, shall be subject to imprisonment for a term ranging from 01 year to 05 years.
Committing the crime in one of the following cases shall be subject to imprisonment for a term ranging from 03 years to 07 years:
a) Committing the crime two or more times;
b) Purchasing sex with a person from 13 years old to under 16 years old;
c) Causing harm to the health of the victim, with a body injury rate from 31% to 60%.
- Committing the crime in one of the following cases shall be subject to imprisonment for a term ranging from 07 years to 15 years:
a) Committing the crime two or more times against a person from 13 years old to under 16 years old;
b) Causing harm to the health of the victim, with a body injury rate of 61% or above.
- The offender shall also be subject to a fine ranging from VND 10,000,000 to VND 50,000,000.

Thus, according to the regulation, individuals who commit the crime of purchasing sex with persons under 18 years old, depending on the specific case, are also subject to a fine ranging from VND 10,000,000 to VND 50,000,000. Therefore, in the case of purchasing sex with a 16-year-old, in addition to imprisonment according to the regulation, the offender shall also be subject to a fine ranging from VND 10,000,000 to VND 50,000,000.
