Insulting a Judge During a Trial May Result in Imprisonment of Up to 3 Years?
Section 139, Article 1 of the 2017 Amended Criminal Code stipulates the crime of disturbing court sessions and meetings as follows:
Any person who, in a court session or meeting, seriously insults or defames the honor and dignity of judges, jurors, other persons with the authority to conduct proceedings, or participants in the court session, or who destroys property, and if the case is not subject to the provisions of Article 178 of this Code, shall be subject to a fine ranging from VND 10,000,000 to VND 100,000,000, non-custodial reform for up to 03 years, or imprisonment from 06 months to 02 years.
Committing the crime under one of the following circumstances shall result in imprisonment from 01 year to 03 years:
a) Leading to the suspension of the court session or meeting;
b) Assaulting judges, jurors, or other persons with the authority to conduct proceedings, if the case is not subject to the provisions of Article 134 of this Code.

Any person who, in a court session, seriously insults or defames the honor and dignity of judges shall be subject to a fine ranging from VND 10,000,000 to VND 100,000,000, non-custodial reform for up to 03 years, or imprisonment from 06 months to 02 years.
In cases leading to the suspension of the court session, imprisonment for up to 03 years shall be imposed.
