Cheating to Appropriate 1 Billion Dong Will Face Life Imprisonment?
Pursuant to Point a Clause 4 Article 174 of the Criminal Code 2015, the crime of fraud and appropriation of property is stipulated as follows:
- Anyone who fraudulently appropriates property worth from 2,000,000 VND to less than 50,000,000 VND or less than 2,000,000 VND but falls into one of the following cases, shall be subject to non-custodial reform for up to 03 years or imprisonment from 06 months to 03 years:
a) Has been administratively sanctioned for an act of appropriation but still commits it;
b) Has been convicted of this crime or one of the crimes specified in Articles 168, 169, 170, 171, 172, 173, 175, and 290 of this Code, and the criminal record has not been cleared but still commits it;

- Committing the crime in one of the following cases, shall be subject to imprisonment from 12 years to 20 years or life imprisonment:
a) Appropriating property worth 500,000,000 VND or more;
...
Therefore, in cases where the crime involves the appropriation of property worth 500,000,000 VND or more, the perpetrator may face life imprisonment. Hence, in a case of fraud involving the appropriation of 1 billion VND, the perpetrator may also face life imprisonment as stipulated in this regulation.
