The minimum number of damaged banknotes required for exchange at the bank
According to Clause 1, Article 4 of Circular 25/2013/TT-NHNN, provisions on the standards for money unfit for circulation are specified as follows:
For torn and damaged money due to the circulation process (objective causes group):
- Paper money that has changed color, faded decorative patterns, letters, numbers; crumpled, torn, blurred, dirty, old; torn apart or glued back but still intact;
- Metallic money that is worn, rusted, partially or wholly damaged in its images, decorative patterns, letters, numbers, and coatings.
Thus, money that is torn apart but still intact is not eligible for circulation.
In addition, Clause 1, Article 6 of this Circular stipulates the exchange of money unfit for circulation as follows:
For money unfit for circulation as specified in Clauses 1 and 3, Article 4 of this Circular, the branches of the State Bank, the Transaction Office of the State Bank, and the exchange units are responsible for promptly exchanging it for customers in need, without limiting the quantity and without requiring documentation.
It can be seen that when a customer needs to exchange money, the bank must do so immediately without limiting the quantity or requiring documentation. Hence, even one bill can be exchanged.
Respectfully!
