Can taped torn money still be used?
According to Clause 1, Article 4 and Clause 1, Article 6 of Circular 25/2013/TT-NHNN, the standards for money unfit for circulation are stipulated as follows:
- Paper money that has changed color, faded in design, letters, numbers; crumpled, torn, smeared, dirty, old; torn into separate pieces or whole pieces that have been taped back together but still retain the entire bill;
- Coin money that is worn, rusted, partially or completely damaged in terms of design, letters, numbers, and the coating on the coin.
Therefore, in cases where paper money is torn into separate pieces or whole pieces that have been taped back together but still retain the entire bill, it is not fit for circulation. Hence, the supermarket staff refusing to accept this 200,000 VND note is justified.
Furthermore, you can bring this note for exchange to new money at the State Bank branch, the State Bank Transaction Office, the authorized credit institution, the foreign bank branch, or the State Treasury.
Sincerely!
