When are candidates allowed to defer university admissions results?
Based on Article 10 of the Admission Regulations for university and preschool teacher training admission procedures issued with Circular 08/2022/TT-BGDDT regarding deferral of admission results:
Deferral of Admission Results
1. Candidates who have received an admission notice are allowed to defer their admission results in the following cases:
a) Performing military service or joining concentrated youth volunteer work immediately in the year of admission as per a decision or order from a competent authority;
b) Suffering from a serious illness or having a severe accident preventing timely enrollment, with medical records and confirmation from a competent healthcare authority.
Candidates as stipulated in clause 1 must submit a deferral application along with supporting documents to the institution calling for enrollment. The maximum deferral period is determined by the institution but must not be less than 3 years for those specified in point a, clause 1 of this Article.
Upon becoming eligible to return to school, the person whose admission results were deferred must complete the enrollment procedures as required by the institution, including providing proof of having completed the duty or recovery treatment. For cases specified in clause 1 of this Article with a deferral period of 3 years or more, the institution shall consider introducing them to preparatory schools for review before officially enrolling.
Accordingly, candidates are allowed to defer their admission results under one of the following cases:
- Performing military service or joining concentrated youth volunteer work immediately in the year of admission as per a decision or order from a competent authority;
- Suffering from a serious illness or having a severe accident preventing timely enrollment, with medical records and confirmation from a competent healthcare authority.
Note: Candidates are only allowed to defer their admission results if they have received an admission notice and must submit a deferral application along with supporting documents to the institution calling for enrollment.
How are the university admission procedures defined?
Based on Article 6 of the Admission Regulations for university and preschool teacher training admission procedures issued with Circular 08/2022/TT-BGDDT regarding methods of university admission as follows:
[1] The training institution decides on one or more admission methods (entrance exams, evaluation or a combination of both), applying generally or specifically to certain programs, disciplines, fields, and forms of training. One program or training discipline may use several admission methods simultaneously.
[2] Each admission method must clearly define the evaluation criteria and procedures for combining the criteria to classify, rank, and determine the conditions for candidate admission based on the program and training discipline's requirements. Evaluation or admission criteria must be based on fundamental knowledge and core competencies required by candidates to follow the program and discipline.
[3] For admissions based on academic results, test scores per subject (including comprehensive high school scores, graduation exam scores and other evaluations):
- The subject combination for admissions must include at least 3 subjects relevant to the program's characteristics and requirements (with possible weight for each subject), including mathematics or literature.
- A training discipline or program may use multiple subject combinations simultaneously, where a score differential among combinations may be specified when determining admission conditions.
- No more than 4 subject combinations should be used for admissions to one program or discipline (except when the combinations differ only in foreign language subjects).
[4] For a training discipline or program with distinct quotas for each admission method or subject combination:
- The allocation of quotas among methods or combinations must be justifiable and should not disadvantage candidates choosing different methods or combinations.
- Changes or additions to methods or subject combinations must be reasonable and planned, ensuring the previous year's applied method or combination's quota does not reduce by more than 30% (within the program's total quota), unless the change or addition was announced at least one year before the application period.
[5] The training institution is responsible for justifying the scientific and practical basis in determining the admission methods, evaluation methods, subject combinations and quota allocations; based on analysis and comparison of admitted students' results.
Respectfully.
