What diet are guaranteed to prisoners in prison each month in Vietnam?

Pursuant to Article 7 of Decree 133/2020/ND-CP regulating diet for prisoners as follows:

1. Prisoners are guaranteed by the State, monthly quantitative standards include:

a) 17 kg of plain rice;

b) 15 kg of green vegetables;

c) 01 kg of pork;

d) 01 kg of fish;

d) 0.5 kg of sugar;

e) 0.75 liters of fish sauce;

g) 0.2 liters of cooking oil;

h) 0.1 kg MSG;

i) 0.5 kg salt;

k) Other spices: equivalent to 0.5 kg of plain rice;

l) Fuel: equivalent to 17 kg of firewood or 15 kg of coal.

Food, and fuel are of guaranteed quality and have average prices according to local market prices.

Prisoners' diet during holidays and New Year is implemented in accordance with the provisions of law and Clause 1, Article 48 of the Law on Execution of Criminal Judgments 2019.

Prisoners working in the list of heavy, hazardous, and dangerous occupations according to the provisions of law are entitled to an increased amount of food, but the total food amount must not exceed 02 times the normal daily food standard.

Based on the requirements to ensure the health of prisoners during the process of detention, labor, and study at the place of serving the sentence, the head of the facility where prisoners are detained can decide to change the amount of food to suit reality so that the prisoner can eat up to the standard.

2. In addition to the food standards specified in Clause 1 of this Article, prisoners are allowed to use their own gifts and money to eat more but not more than 03 times the amount of food per month for each prisoner and must go through the depository system and a canteen serving activities for prisoners of the detention facility.

3. Prisoners are guaranteed to eat, drink hygienically, and have food safety.

4. Each camp of the prisoner detention facility is provided with at least one collective kitchen. Norms of feeding equipment for a collective kitchen for 100 prisoners include: 01 food cabinet covered with mesh or glass, 03 large pans, 01 small pan, 01 large pot used for 03 years; Knives, cutting boards, sinks, baskets, trays, bowls, chopsticks used for 01 year and other necessary tools and equipment to serve cooking and dividing meals for prisoners.

Food supplies used for 01 dining tray of 06 prisoners include 01 table cage, 01 rice pot, 01 soup pot used for 02 years; 02 plates of food, 01 bowl of dipping sauce, 01 rice ladle, 01 soup ladle used for 01 year.

Feeding equipment used for 01 prisoner to eat separately at a rate includes 01 pair of cages with 04 compartments or trays with 05 plastic compartments specifically used to hold rice and 01 plastic spoon for rice used for 02 years.

5. Prisoners are allowed to use electricity and domestic water according to prescribed norms.

Thus, your son in prison will be guaranteed by the State, with quantitative standards each month according to the diet prescribed above in Vietnam.

What personal belongings will prisoners be given when entering the camp in Vietnam? 

According to Article 8 of Decree 133/2020/ND-CP, regulations on prisoners' clothing and personal belongings are as follows:

1. Prisoners are granted:

a) 02 sets of long clothes made of regular fabric according to uniform pattern/year;

b) 02 sets of underwear/year;

c) 02 towels/year;

d) 02 personal screenings/year;

d) 02 pairs of sandals/year;

e) 01 hat (for male prisoners) or 01 hat (for female prisoners)/year;

g) 01 nylon raincoat/year;

h) 04 toothbrushes/year;

i) 600 g toothpaste/year;

k) 3.6 kg of soap/year;

l) 800 ml shampoo/year;

m) 01 screen/03 years;

n) 01 blanket/04 years (from Thua Thien Hue province to the North and 05 Central Highlands provinces provide cotton blankets with covers weighing no more than 02 kg, the remaining provinces provide fiber blankets);

o) 01 warm coat/03 years (issued from Thua Thien Hue province to the North and 05 Central Highlands provinces, the remaining provinces and centrally run cities are not issued);

Female prisoners are provided with necessary items for personal hygiene equivalent to 02 kg of plain rice/person/month.

2. Prisoners participating in labor and vocational training are given 02 sets of labor protection clothing and other necessary labor protection equipment each year.

Models, colors of clothing and labor protection equipment for prisoners are prescribed by the Minister of Public Security and the Minister of National Defense.

According to this Article, when prisoners enter prison, they will be given personal belongings including the items specified above in Vietnam.
