What are conditions for issuance of a pharmacy practice certificate in Vietnam?
Based on Article 13 of the Pharmacy Law 2016 stipulating the conditions for obtaining a Pharmacy Practice Certificate:
Article 13. Conditions for Issuance of a Pharmacy Practice Certificate
- Possess a degree, certificate, or professional certification (hereinafter collectively referred to as professional qualification) issued or recognized in Vietnam, suitable for the job position and pharmaceutical business establishment, including:
a) University degree in pharmacy (hereinafter referred to as the Pharmacist degree);
b) University degree in general medicine;
c) University degree in traditional medicine or traditional pharmacy;
d) University degree in biology;
dd) University degree in chemistry;
e) College degree in pharmacy;

[1] Possess a degree, certificate, or professional certification issued or recognized in Vietnam, suitable for the job position and pharmaceutical business establishment, including:
- University degree in pharmacy
- University degree in general medicine
- University degree in traditional medicine or traditional pharmacy
- University degree in biology
- University degree in chemistry
- College degree in pharmacy
- Intermediate degree in pharmacy
- College, intermediate degree in medicine
- Intermediate degree in traditional medicine or traditional pharmacy
- Elementary certificates in pharmacy
- Certificate of traditional medicine, certificate of traditional pharmacy, certificate of family remedies, or other degrees, certificates in traditional medicine and pharmacy issued before this Law takes effect
[2] Have practice time at a pharmaceutical business establishment, the pharmacy department of a medical examination and treatment facility, a pharmaceutical training institution, a pharmaceutical research institution, a drug testing facility, raw material for drugs, a drug regulatory agency, or a representative office of a foreign merchant operating in the pharmaceutical field in Vietnam; medical examination and treatment facility suitable for the practitioner's specialty as prescribed below:
- For persons whose Pharmacy Practice Certificate is revoked without a certificate of completion of training programs, updating pharmaceutical professional knowledge within 3 years from the date of issuance of the Pharmacy Practice Certificate or from the date of the certificate of completion of the pharmaceutical professional knowledge update program, there is no practice time requirement but they must update pharmaceutical professional knowledge.
- For those with postgraduate specialization qualifications suitable for the scope of practice, practice time is reduced as prescribed by the Government of Vietnam.
- For persons holding professional qualifications in traditional medicine, certificates of traditional pharmacy, family remedy certificates, or other degrees, certificates in traditional medicine issued before January 01, 2017, the practice time is as prescribed by the Minister of Health.
[3] Have a health certificate for practicing pharmacy issued by a competent medical facility.
[4] Not be one of the following cases:
- Being prosecuted for criminal liability, serving a court sentence or decision; during the period of being banned from practicing, prohibited from doing work related to pharmaceutical activities according to the court's judgment or decision
- Being restricted in civil act capacity
Note: For those who voluntarily apply for a Pharmacy Practice Certificate through an examination, all of the above conditions must be met
What are prohibited advertising cases in pharmacy in Vietnam?
According to Clause 10, Article 6 of the Pharmacy Law 2016 (amended by Point d, Clause 3, Article 1 of the Amended Pharmacy Law 2024) stipulating the prohibited advertising cases in pharmacy:
- Advertising drugs without prior verification of advertising content by competent state agencies or not in accordance with verified content
- Using unrecognized certifications by the Ministry of Health, exploiting material benefits, abusing the names of organizations, individuals, types of symbols, images, status, reputation, correspondence, and thank you letters to advertise drugs
- Using results of clinical research, preclinical research, testing results, bioequivalence results not recognized by the Ministry of Health to advertise drugs
