What is the Main Transmission Route of Gonorrhea?
Based on Section 1 of the Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Treatment of Gonorrhea (Promulgated together with Decision No. 5165/QD-BYT in 2021) stipulates as follows:
Gonorrhea is one of the common sexually transmitted infections, caused by the Gram-negative bacterium Neisseria gonorrhoeae.
The disease is primarily transmitted through vaginal, oral, and anal sexual contact. In men, gonococcal infection often leads to urethritis, which if left untreated, may result in epididymitis, urethral stricture, and infertility. In women, untreated gonococcal infections may lead to pelvic inflammatory disease, tubal blockage, ectopic pregnancy, and infertility. Newborns with mothers who have gonorrhea can be infected during childbirth, leading to conjunctivitis.
According to estimates by the World Health Organization (WHO), in 2020, there were approximately 82.4 million new cases of gonorrhea globally, with 23.2 million cases in the Western Pacific region. Coinfection with Chlamydia trachomatis has been detected in 10-40% of individuals with gonorrhea.
Respectfully!
