What are rules for writing nutrition facts on food labels in Vietnam?
Pursuant to Article 4 of the Circular 29/2023/TT-BYT stipulating rules for writing nutrition facts on food labels in Vietnam as follows:
- Nutrition facts on food labels shall be written in accordance with regulations of this Circular, relevant regulations of law on goods labels and food safety.
- Nutrition facts must be accurate and do not cause confusion or misunderstanding of nutritional value of the food.
- Nutrition facts on food labels must be recognizable, comprehensible and indelible.

Is it permissible to trade unexpired foods with labels that do not contain adequate nutrition facts in Vietnam?
Pursuant to Article 9 of the Circular 29/2023/TT-BYT stipulating principles on writing nutrition facts on labels as follows:
Transition clauses
Foods with labels that do not contain adequate nutrition facts as prescribed by this Circular that have been permitted for manufacture, sale, import, circulation in Vietnam before January 1st 2026 may remain in circulation until the expiry dates written on their labels.

What are non-compulsory nutrient contents on food labels in Vietnam?
Pursuant to Appendix 1 issued together with the Circular 29/2023/TT-BYT, from February 15, 2024, non-compulsory nutrient contents on food labels in Vietnam include:
- Energy ≤ 4 kcal per 100 ml (liquid).
- Protein ≤ 0,5 g per 100 g (solid) or per 100 ml (liquid).
- Carbohydrate ≤ 0,5 g per 100 g (solid) or per 100 ml (liquid).
- Fat ≤ 0,5 g per 100 g (solid) or per 100 ml (liquid).
- Saturated fat ≤ 0,1 g per 100 g (solid) or ≤ 0,1 g per 100 ml (liquid).
- Total sugar ≤ 0,5 g per 100 g (solid) or ≤ 0,5 g per 100 ml (liquid).
- Sodium ≤ 0,005 g per 100 g.
Note: The above regulations are only intended to determine the non-mandatory requirement of declaring nutritional components on food labels. They should not be used for other purposes.
