What Are The Clinical Symptoms of COVID-19 Infection?
According to Section III.1 of the Guidelines on the Care of Patients with Acute Respiratory Infections caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus in Medical Examination and Treatment Facilities issued with Decision 1125/QD-BYT in 2021, the content is stipulated as follows:
- Incubation period: from 2 days to 14 days, with an average of 5-7 days.
- Initial phase: Common symptoms include fever, dry cough, fatigue, and muscle pain. Some cases may experience sore throat, nasal congestion, runny nose, headache, productive cough, vomiting, and diarrhea.
- Progression:
+ Most patients (approximately more than 80%) only exhibit mild fever, cough, and fatigue, do not develop pneumonia, and typically recover spontaneously within about 1 week. Some cases have no clinical symptoms at all.
+ Approximately 14% of patients have severe progression such as pneumonia, severe pneumonia requiring hospitalization, and about 5% need treatment in intensive care units with manifestations of acute respiratory distress (rapid breathing, shortness of breath, cyanosis, etc.), acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), septic shock, multiple organ dysfunction including renal and myocardial damage, leading to death.
+ The average time from the initial symptoms to severe progression is usually about 7-8 days.
+ Mortality is higher in elderly individuals, those with immunodeficiency, and those with accompanying chronic diseases.
- Recovery period: After the acute phase of 7-10 days, if ARDS does not occur, the patient will have reduced fever and clinical signs will gradually return to normal, leading to recovery.
- There is no evidence of different clinical manifestations of COVID-19 in pregnant women.
- In children, most cases of COVID-19 have milder clinical manifestations than adults or are asymptomatic. Common signs in children include fever and cough, or manifestations of pneumonia. Some children with COVID-19 experience multisystem inflammatory damage: fever; red or congested conjunctiva, or swollen mucous membranes in the mouth, hands, and feet; circulatory insufficiency; manifestations of cardiac dysfunction and increased cardiac enzymes; digestive disorders; coagulopathy and increased markers of acute inflammation.
Respectfully!
