Title: Is Orthodontic Treatment a Reason for Military Service Exemption?
In accordance with Clause 3, Article 4 of Circular 148/2018/TT-BQP on health standards, the provisions are as follows:
- Selection of citizens with health category 1, 2, 3 in accordance with Joint Circular 16/2016/TTLT-BYT-BQP dated June 30, 2016, issued by the Minister of Health - Minister of National Defense regulating medical examinations for military service.
- For agencies, units, and positions specified in Point b, Clause 2 of this Article, the selection will meet the specific standards regulated by the Ministry of National Defense.
- Citizens with health category 3 for eye refraction disorders (myopia of 1.5 diopters or more, hyperopia of any level); drug addiction, HIV, AIDS infections, are not called for military enlistment.
And in Appendix 1 issued with Joint Circular 16/2016/TTLT-BYT-BQP, the provisions are as follows:

Based on the above regulations, orthodontics (braces) are not mentioned among the dental, oral, and maxillofacial diseases. Therefore, if you meet other conditions for military enrollment, you are still eligible to participate in military service.
