Regulations on Calculating Bed Usage Time
According to the regulations in Official Dispatch 3385/BYT-KH-TC of 2019 by the Ministry of Health:
The number of inpatient treatment days is determined based on two phases:
Phase 2: From July 15, 2018 onwards:
- If the patient recovers or is discharged from the hospital, the number of inpatient treatment days is calculated using the formula:
Number of inpatient treatment days = Discharge date – Admission date
- If the patient's condition is severe and does not improve or worsens and the family requests a transfer to a higher-level hospital; the patient receives emergency treatment at a higher-level hospital and then receives inpatient treatment at a lower-level hospital or another facility, the number of inpatient treatment days is calculated using the formula:
Number of inpatient treatment days = (Discharge date – Admission date) + 1
In which, if admission and discharge occur on the same day, treatment lasting more than 4 hours is counted as one treatment day. If a patient is transferred to 2 departments in one day, each department is counted as only half a day…”
In your case, you need to determine which category the patient falls under according to the above dispatch to calculate the number of treatment days at the hospital. If you fall under category 1, then your admission on August 18, 2020, will be counted as 1 day, so the hospital's calculation of 4 days is conformable.
Sincerely!
