Oversight of Malarial Parasite Monitoring: Includes Which Content?
Based on subsection 1.1.1b under subitem 1.1 of Section 1, Part III, Guidelines for Malaria Surveillance and Control (issued together with Decision 4922/QD-BYT of 2021), the following regulations apply:
Malaria Parasite Surveillance
- All suspected malaria cases must undergo parasite detection tests using Giemsa-stained blood smears examined under a microscope, rapid diagnostic tests, or molecular biology techniques (if available). Analyze the proportion of P. falciparum, P. vivax, P. malariae, P. ovale, P. knowlesi parasites and mixed infections.
- Daily monitoring of malaria parasites' response to treatment at healthcare facilities until test results return negative, with follow-up on days D28 and D42 using blood smear microscopy.
- Monitoring the sensitivity of malaria parasites to treatment drugs (TES).
- Monitoring the quality of microscopic examinations: Each month, microscopy points are to send 100% of positive and suspected slides and randomly select 10% of negative slides to be sent to higher-level facilities for verification.
Respectfully!
