According to Clause 5, Article 3 of Circular 09/2021/TT-BYT stipulating the procedures for HIV testing for pregnant women, in which:
Counseling and management after HIV testing for pregnant women:
- In the case of a pregnant woman with a positive HIV test result: Provide counseling on preventing mother-to-child transmission of HIV and immediately refer her to an HIV antiretroviral treatment facility;
- In the case of a pregnant woman with an HIV reactive test result during labor and delivery: Provide immediate counseling on preventing mother-to-child transmission of HIV using antiretroviral drugs for the mother and also initiate antiretroviral prophylaxis for both mother and child. Immediately send blood samples for confirmatory HIV testing. If the mother's HIV test result is undetermined, continue antiretroviral treatment for both mother and child until a definitive result is obtained; if the mother's HIV test result is confirmed negative, discontinue the antiretroviral treatment;
- In the case of a pregnant woman with a negative HIV test result but engaging in high-risk behavior for HIV infection: Provide HIV prevention counseling and refer the pregnant woman to a facility that offers HIV prevention services.
Sincerely!
