Vietnam: Is temporary residence registration required in case of staying at lover's house for a week?
According to Article 27 of the 2020 Law on Residence, the conditions for temporary residence registration are specified as follows:

Citizens who come to reside at a lawful place of residence outside the administrative unit at the commune level where they have permanent residence registration for the purposes of employment, study, or for other purposes for 30 days or more must carry out temporary residence registration.

The maximum period of temporary residence is 2 years and it can be extended multiple times.

Citizens are not allowed to register for temporary residence at the places specified in Article 23 of this Law.
Based on the current regulations, in your case, you do not need to register for temporary residence as your stay at the new place does not exceed 30 days. Additionally, if your lover’s house is within the same administrative unit at the commune level, you also do not need to register for temporary residence.
Cases of annulment of temporary residence registration in Vietnam
According to Clause 1, Article 29 of the 2020 Law on Residence, the cases subject to annulment of temporary residence registration are specified as follows:
- A person will have their temporary residence registration deleted if they fall under one of the following cases:
a) Deceased; there is a court decision declaring them missing or dead;
b) A decision to cancel temporary residence registration as stipulated in Article 35 of this Law has been issued;
c) Continuously absent from the place of temporary residence for 6 months or more without registering temporary residence at another place;
d) Granted permission by a competent authority to cease Vietnamese nationality, stripped of Vietnamese nationality, or the decision to grant Vietnamese nationality has been revoked;
đ) Registered for permanent residence at the same place of temporary residence;
e) Persons who registered for temporary residence at a rented, borrowed, or hosted place but have terminated the rental, borrowing, or hosting arrangement without registering temporary residence at another place;
g) Persons who registered for temporary residence at a lawful place of residence but the ownership of such place has been transferred to another person, unless the new owner agrees to continue to let them reside there;
h) Persons registered for temporary residence at a place that has been demolished, confiscated by a decision of a competent state agency, or on a vehicle that has had its registration canceled according to the law.
Thus, if you fall under one of the above-mentioned cases, you will have your temporary residence registration deleted.
