QR Code on Chip-Based Citizenship Card: What Information Does It Contain?
According to Clause 1, Article 12 of Circular 59/2021/TT-BCA on the regulation of confirmation of the Citizen Identification Number and the National Identification Number, it stipulates:
The QR code on the citizen identification card stores information about the Citizen Identification Number and the National Identification Number. Agencies, organizations, and individuals can check information on the citizen's Citizen Identification Number and National Identification Number by scanning the QR code. Citizens are not required to provide a Certificate of National Identification Number, Citizen Identification Number.
According to the above regulation, the QR code on the citizen identification card stores the Citizen Identification Number and the National Identification Number. In practice, by scanning the QR code through a smartphone or other QR code scanning devices, the following information can be retrieved:
- Citizen Identification Number (or the 12-digit National Identification Number);
- Old National Identification Number (if any);
- Name; date of birth;
- Permanent address;
- Date of issuance of the citizen identification card.
