Is there any content about godparents in birth certificates in Vietnam?
Pursuant to Clause 1 Article 14 of the Law on Civil Status in 2014 stipulating birth registration contents in Vietnam as follows:
- Information of the person whose birth is registered: family name, middle name and first name; gender; birthdate; birthplace; native place; ethnicity; and citizenship;
- Information of the parents of the person whose birth is registered: full name, middle name and first name; year of birth; ethnicity; citizenship; and place of residence;
- The personal identification number of the person whose birth is registered.
As regulations above, there is no information about godparents in birth certificates in Vietnam.
What documents shall be needed if grandparents register birth for their grandchildren in Vietnam?
Pursuant to Article 16 of the Law on Civil Status in 2014 stipulating as follows:
- Birth registration declaration.
- Birth certification paper issued by hospitals or medical facilities where the child was born.
If there is no birth certification paper, there must be a written certification of the witness of the birth.
- Birth registrants shall submit original copies of one of personal papers (passports, ID cards, citizen identification card or other valid paper with a photo and personal information issued by a competent authority) to prove identity; marriage certificate (if the child's parents have registered their marriage); Household registration book (or certificate of collective population, certificate of temporary residence registration of the child's parents).
Pursuant to Clause 2 Article 2 of the Circular 04/2020/TT-BTP stipulating as follows:
In case the applicant for registration of the birth of a child is the a grandparent or another relative of the child according to regulations in Clause 1 Article 15 of the Law on Civil Status, the authorization letter from the child’s parent(s) is not required but the child’s parent(s) must agree on the contents of the birth certificate.
As regulations above, if grandparents register birth for their grandchildren in Vietnam, these are compulsory documents:
- Birth certification paper.
- Grandparents' personal papers.
- Marriage certificate of children's parents.
- Household registration book of children's parents.
- Agreement on contents of the birth certificate (name, ethnic, place of birth,...)
