In 2025, what are the ages subject to conscription in Vietnam?
Based on Article 30 of the Military Service Law 2015 stipulating the age subject to conscription in Vietnam:
Article 30. Age subject to conscription
Citizens who are 18 years old are eligible for conscription; the conscription age ranges from 18 to 25 years old; citizens trained at college or university levels who have had their conscription postponed will be conscripted until the age of 27.
According to the above regulation, citizens born in the following years are expected to receive orders for military service examination in 2025:
[1] In case of not being trained at college or university level and whose conscription was postponed as per the regulations: includes the birth years 2006, 2005, 2004, 2003, 2002, 2001, 2000, 1999.
[2] In case of being trained at college or university level and whose conscription was postponed as per the regulations: citizens born in 2006, 2005, 2004, 2003, 2002, 2001, 2000, 1999, 1998, 1997.
Note: Citizens born from 1997 to 2006, if still being trained at formal university or college levels in an educational institution during a program of a specific training level, are still eligible for conscription postponement as per the regulations.

What are cases of postponement from conscription in Vietnam?
Based on Article 41 of the Military Service Law 2015 supplemented by point c clause 1 Article 49 of the Civilian Defense Law 2019, stipulating the postponement and exemption of conscription:
Article 41. Postponement and Exemption of Conscription
1. Postponement of conscription applies to the following citizens:
a) Those not sufficiently healthy for active service based on the conclusion of the Health Examination Council;
b) The sole laborer who must directly support family members unable to work or not yet of working age; families severely impacted by accidents, natural disasters, dangerous epidemics certified by the commune-level People's Committee;
c) One child of war invalids, or those affected by Agent Orange with labor reduction ranging from 61% to 80%;
d) Having siblings who are non-commissioned officers or soldiers currently serving; non-commissioned officers, soldiers performing duties in the People's Police force;

Thus, citizens are eligible for conscription postponement if they fall into one of the following categories:
- Those not sufficiently healthy for active service based on the conclusion of the Health Examination Council.
- The sole laborer who must directly support family members unable to work or not yet of working age; families severely impacted by accidents, natural disasters, dangerous epidemics certified by the commune-level People's Committee.
- One child of war invalids, or those affected by Agent Orange with labor reduction ranging from 61% to 80%.
- Having siblings who are non-commissioned officers or soldiers currently serving; non-commissioned officers, soldiers performing duties in the People's Police force.
- Individuals in the process of relocation or resettlement for the first 3 years to particularly difficult communes per a socio-economic development project decided by the provincial People's Committee or higher.
- Officials and public employees, youth volunteers assigned to work in areas with exceptionally difficult socio-economic conditions as prescribed by law.
- Those studying at a general education institution; those trained at formal university level in an educational institution, or formal college level in a vocational education institution during one training program of one training level.
- Active militia members.
Who has the authority to decide on conscription postponement in Vietnam?
Based on Article 42 of the Military Service Law 2015 stipulating the competence in giving decisions on postponement and exemption from conscription and recognition for completion of active duty military service in Vietnam:
Article 42. Competence in giving decisions on postponement and exemption from conscription and recognition for completion of active duty military service
- The Chairman of the district-level People's Committee decides on conscription postponement and exemption for citizens stipulated in Article 41 of this Law.
- The Chief Commander of the district-level Military Command decides on the recognition of completed active military service for citizens stipulated in clause 4 Article 4 of this Law.
According to the above regulation in Vietnam, the Chairman of the district-level People's Committee has the authority to decide on conscription postponement.
