Does Vietnam Allow a Person to Have Dual Citizenship?
According to Article 4 of the Nationality Law 2008, it is stipulated:
The State of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam recognizes that Vietnamese citizens have one nationality, which is Vietnamese nationality, except where this Law provides otherwise.
And in Article 19, the Law also stipulates:
Foreign citizens and stateless persons who are permanently residing in Vietnam may be granted Vietnamese nationality, provided they meet the following conditions:
- Have full civil act capacity as prescribed by Vietnamese law;
- Abide by the Constitution and laws of Vietnam; respect the traditions, customs, and practices of the Vietnamese people;
- Have sufficient Vietnamese language skills to integrate into the Vietnamese community;
- Have been permanently residing in Vietnam for 5 years or more up to the time of applying for Vietnamese nationality;
- Have the capability to ensure their livelihood in Vietnam.
=> Therefore, according to the aforementioned regulations, Vietnamese law allows a person to hold dual nationalities, in which one nationality is Vietnamese.
