Does Incorrect Gender Code on Citizen Identification Card Require a Replacement?
According to Article 23 of the Law on Citizen Identification 2014, the Citizen ID card shall be replaced in the following cases:
- Cases specified in Clause 1, Article 21 of this Law;
- The card is damaged and cannot be used;
- Change of information regarding a surname, middle name, first name; identifying features;
- Re-determination of gender, place of origin;
- Errors in the information on the Citizen ID card;
- Upon the citizen's request.
Furthermore, Article 13 of Decree 137/2015/ND-CP stipulates the structure of the personal identification number as follows:
The personal identification number is a sequence of 12 natural digits, consisting of: 6 digits representing the century of birth, gender, year of birth of the citizen, the code of the province, central municipality, or the country where the citizen registered the birth, and 6 digits are a random sequence.
The codes in the personal identification number are guided by Article 7 of Circular 07/2016/TT-BCA as follows:

Century of birth code, gender code: The number corresponding to the gender and the century the citizen was born is applied as follows:
20th century (from 1900 to the end of 1999): Male 0, female 1;
21st century (from 2000 to the end of 2099): Male 2, female 3;
Therefore, in your case, if there is an error in the gender code, you should contact the police agency for support and verification of the personal identification number. If there is an error, it will be re-issued.
