Does a Single Mother Need a Certificate of Single Status to Register Her Child's Birth?
Clause 1, Article 16 of the Civil Status Law 2014 stipulates the procedures for birth registration as follows:

In case there is no birth certificate, a written document from a witness confirming the birth is required; if there is no witness, a written affidavit of the birth is necessary; in the case of birth registration for abandoned children, there must be a record confirming the abandonment made by the competent authority; in the case of birth registration for a child born via surrogacy, a document proving the surrogacy in accordance with legal regulations is required.
When registering the birth of a child, the following documents must be prepared:
- Birth registration declaration form (as per the prescribed form);
- Birth certificate. In case there is no birth certificate, a written document from a witness confirming the birth is required; if there is no witness, a written affidavit of the birth is necessary;
+ If registering the birth for abandoned children, a record confirming the abandonment made by the competent authority is required;
+ If registering the birth for a child born via surrogacy, a document proving the surrogacy in accordance with legal regulations is required.
- Additionally, the person registering the birth must bring their ID card/Citizen Identification Card and Household Register for verification.
