Do Vietnamese Nationals Residing Abroad Retain Their Vietnamese Nationality?
Based on Clause 1, Article 1 of the amended Law on Vietnamese Nationality 2014, the provisions regarding individuals with Vietnamese nationality are as follows:
Individuals with Vietnamese nationality include those who have Vietnamese nationality until the effective date of this Law and individuals who have Vietnamese nationality as prescribed by this Law.
Vietnamese residing abroad who have not lost Vietnamese nationality according to Vietnamese legal provisions before the effective date of this Law shall retain their Vietnamese nationality.
Vietnamese residing abroad who have not lost Vietnamese nationality and do not have documents proving their Vietnamese nationality as specified in Article 11 of this Law shall register with the Vietnamese representative office abroad to be recognized as having Vietnamese nationality and to be issued a Vietnamese passport.
Thus, Vietnamese residing abroad are still considered as individuals holding Vietnamese nationality when they fall under the aforementioned cases.
Respectfully!
