Can the Loss of a Passport be Reported at the Temporary Residence?
According to Clause 1, Article 9 of Circular 29/2016/TT-BCA, which stipulates the procedure for reporting lost passports, canceling the validity of lost passports, and restoring the validity of passports that had been canceled, as follows:
Responsibilities of the person who lost the passport:
- Within 48 hours from the time the passport loss is discovered, it is necessary to report it to the nearest Immigration Management Agency using Form X08 to cancel the validity of the lost passport;
- When reporting, it is required to present a valid ID card or Citizen Identification card for verification; if the report is sent by mail, it must be certified by the Chief of the ward, commune, commune-level town police where the person permanently or temporarily resides;
- The person who lost the passport, if failing to promptly report to the Immigration Management Agency, will be subject to administrative penalties in accordance with the law.
Based on the above regulation, in the event you lose your passport, within 48 hours (from the time the passport loss is discovered), you must report it to the nearest Immigration Management Agency. Therefore, you can absolutely report it to the Immigration Management Agency where you are temporarily residing.
