Can female citizens participate in police service in Vietnam?
Based on Article 4 of Decree 70/2019/ND-CP regarding the selection criteria for participating in the police service as follows:
- Male citizens of conscription age who have registered for military service as specified by the Law on Military Service 2015. Female citizens of conscription age who have registered for military service as specified by the Law on Military Service 2015, and have professional qualifications suitable to the requirements of the People's Police, if they volunteer and are needed by the People's Police, then they will be considered for selection to perform the duties of participating in the People's Police.
- The Minister of Public Security shall specify the age for selecting citizens to perform the duties of participating in the People's Police, in accordance with the nature and characteristics of each employing unit, and specify the necessary professions to select female citizens to perform the duties of participating in the People's Police in accordance with the usage needs at each period.
- The duration of duty participation in the People's Police is 24 months. The Minister of Public Security decides to extend the service time of non-commissioned officers and conscripts but not exceeding 06 months in the cases stipulated in Clause 1, Article 8 of the Law on the People's Public Security 2018.
The duration of duty is calculated from the date of handover of citizens; in cases where there is no concentrated handover, it is calculated from the date the People's Police unit receives them until there is a competent authority's decision for discharge. The time of desertion and the time serving prison sentences are not counted in the duration of the duty to participate in the People's Police.
Therefore, according to the regulations, if they are of conscription age and have registered for military service according to the provisions of the Law on Military Service 2015, have professional qualifications suitable to the requirements of the People's Police, and if they volunteer and the People's Police have a need, they will be considered for selection to perform the duties of participating in the People's Police.
Application for participating in police service in Vietnam
The application for participating in police service are stipulated in Article 6 of this Decree as follows:
Citizens participating in the selection for performing the duties of participating in the People's Police shall submit the following documents to the commune-level police (hereinafter referred to as commune-level police) where the citizen has permanent residence:
- Declaration of registration for performing the duties of participating in the People's Police according to the form in the Appendix issued together with this Decree, with the confirmation of the People’s Committee of the commune, commune-level town (hereinafter referred to as commune-level People's Committee) where they reside or of the agency, organization where they are working or studying.
- Certificate of registration for military service.
