Birth Registration in 2017: Can a Lost Birth Certificate be Re-registered?
Clause 1, Article 24 of Decree 123/2015/ND-CP stipulates as follows:
- Birth registration, marriage registration, or death registration that was registered at a competent authority of Vietnam before January 1, 2016, but both the Civil Register and the original civil status documents are lost, may be re-registered.
According to this provision, re-registration of birth is conducted for cases where birth registration was done before January 1, 2016, and both the Civil Register and the original birth certificate are lost.
Therefore, in your case of registering the birth of your child in August 2017, the birth information of the child is still preserved in the Civil Register at the place where you previously registered the birth, so re-registration is not allowed. You can request the issuance of a copy of the birth extract from the original register for your child.
Sincerely!
