Temporary Residence Card for Foreigners under DT Category: Validity Period?
According to Article 38 of the Law on Entry, Exit, Transit, and Residence of Foreigners in Vietnam 2014, the validity period of temporary residence cards issued to foreigners is regulated as follows:
- The validity period of the temporary residence card issued must be at least 30 days shorter than the remaining validity of the passport.
- Temporary residence cards with codes NG3, LV1, LV2, DT, and DH have a validity period not exceeding 05 years.
- Temporary residence cards with codes NN1, NN2, TT have a validity period not exceeding 03 years.
- Temporary residence cards with codes LD and PV1 have a validity period not exceeding 02 years.
- Expired temporary residence cards will be considered for the issuance of a new card.
Thus, for the temporary residence card of foreigners in the DT category, the maximum validity period of the temporary residence card is 05 years.
However, as of July 1, 2020, when the amended Law on Entry, Exit, Transit, and Residence of Foreigners in Vietnam 2019 takes effect, the validity periods of temporary residence cards issued to foreigners will be as follows:
- Temporary residence cards with code DT1 have a validity period not exceeding 10 years.
- Temporary residence cards with codes NG3, LV1, LV2, LS, DT2, and DH have a validity period not exceeding 05 years.
- Temporary residence cards with codes NN1, NN2, DT3, TT have a validity period not exceeding 03 years.
