Method for Determining Whole Kernels, Broken Kernels, and Small Broken Kernels in National Reserve Rice
Pursuant to Clause 3.2.5 Section 3 of the National Technical Regulation QCVN 06:2019/BTC issued together with Circular 78/2019/TT-BTC stipulating the method of determining whole kernels, broken rice, and small broken rice in national reserve rice as follows:
Procedure
From sample portion 3 (see Annex 4), weigh 200 g of the sample, accurately to 0.01 g. Remove paddy rice and impurities, then use a sieve with a 1.5 mm diameter hole to separate the small broken rice. Use a particle size classifier to separate the whole kernels, broken rice, and small broken rice. If a particle size classifier is not available, suitable sieves can be used to preliminarily separate the whole kernels and broken rice, then evenly spread each part on a tray and pick out any whole grains mixed in the broken rice or broken grains mixed in the whole kernels, if any. Separate the small broken rice according to the corresponding size.
Weigh the separated parts as above, accurately to 0.01 g.
Calculating the Results
- The ratio of whole kernels, X1, calculated as a percentage by weight, according to the formula:
where:
m1 is the weight of whole kernels, in grams (g);
m is the weight of sample portion 3, in grams (g).
- The ratio of broken rice, X2, calculated as a percentage by weight, according to the formula:
where m2 is the weight of broken rice, in grams (g).
- The ratio of small broken rice, X3, calculated as a percentage by weight, according to the formula:
where m3 is the weight of small broken rice, in grams (g).
The test result is the average value of two parallel determinations on the same test sample when their difference does not exceed 1% of the average value. Report the result accurately to one decimal place.
