Management of Swiftlet Farming under the 2018 Livestock Law
On November 19, 2018, the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, session XIV, at its 6th meeting, passed the Livestock Law No. 32/2018/QH14 (referred to as the Livestock Law 2018).
The Livestock Law 2018 regulates livestock activities; rights and obligations of organizations and individuals in livestock activities; and state management of livestock.
According to the provisions of Article 64 of the Livestock Law 2018 (effective from January 1, 2020), the management of swiftlet farming is specifically regulated as follows:
- Swiftlet attraction is the utilization of technical measures to attract swiftlets to nest in a swiftlet house.
- Swiftlet farming activities include attraction, incubation, breeding, and harvesting of swiftlet nests.
- Organizations and individuals engaging in swiftlet farming within swiftlet farming areas must ensure the environment, noise levels, disease prevention, and food safety in accordance with legal regulations.
