Management of Honeybee Rearing under the 2018 Livestock Law
On November 19, 2018, the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Session XIV, at its 6th meeting, passed the Livestock Law No. 32/2018/QH14 (hereinafter referred to as the 2018 Livestock Law).
The 2018 Livestock Law stipulates the activities related to animal husbandry; the rights and obligations of organizations and individuals involved in animal husbandry activities; and state management of animal husbandry.
According to the provisions of Article 65 of the 2018 Livestock Law (effective from January 1, 2020), the management of beekeeping is specifically stipulated as follows:
- Honeybee colonies intended for honey production must be domesticated and ensure safety from diseases.
- Organizations and individuals keeping bees for honey production must ensure the safety of the bees from diseases, maintain the cleanliness of the beekeeping environment, and adhere to food safety standards for products derived from honeybees.
- The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development shall stipulate regulations concerning the distance between honeybee placement points, methods for relocating honeybee colonies, crops, flowering areas for beekeeping, and the use of honeybees for pollinating crops.
