Is Stunning Poultry Required Before Slaughter?
Poultry includes species of animals with 2 legs, feathers, belonging to the group of winged animals domesticated and raised by humans.
To demonstrate humane treatment of livestock before slaughter, Article 71 of the 2018 Animal Husbandry Law (effective from January 1, 2020) stipulates that slaughtering establishments must fulfill the following requirements:
Have a place to keep livestock ensuring hygiene; provide suitable drinking water for livestock while waiting for slaughter;
Minimize causing fear and pain to livestock; do not beat or mistreat livestock;
Have measures to stun the livestock before slaughter; do not allow livestock to witness the slaughter of their kind.
Thus, according to the provisions of the 2018 Animal Husbandry Law, only livestock slaughtering establishments are required to stun livestock (including chickens and ducks) before slaughter. The law does not require small family households to adhere to this regulation when slaughtering chickens and ducks. Therefore, your family does not need to worry about this issue.
Sincerely!
