- Pursuant to Article 66 of the 2018 Animal Husbandry Law, regulations are as follows:
- Pet owners of dogs and cats must adhere to the following requirements:
- Vaccinate dogs and cats against rabies in accordance with veterinary regulations;
- When suspecting dogs or cats of showing symptoms of rabies, immediately report to the local People's Committee or animal husbandry and veterinary authorities and take actions as prescribed by veterinary law;
- Take measures to ensure the safety of people and other animals, maintain environmental hygiene, and comply with veterinary hygiene conditions;
- In cases where dogs or cats attack or cause damage, compensation must be provided according to the law.
According to Clause 3 Article 2 of Decree 04/2020/ND-CP amending Clause 2 Article 7 of Decree No. 90/2017/ND-CP, a fine ranging from 1,000,000 VND to 2,000,000 VND is stipulated for the following acts:
- Failing to vaccinate mandatory animals against rabies;
- Not muzzling dogs or not leashing dogs, or not having a person guide them when taking them to public places.
Thus, as stipulated above, when you own a dog or cat, you need to vaccinate them against rabies to ensure the safety of yourself, your family, and those around you.
In case you do not vaccinate your pets against rabies as mentioned above, you may be fined from 1,000,000 VND to 2,000,000 VND.
