Content of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (Convention on the Rights of the Child)
There are four groups of children's rights, detailed as follows:
- Survival Rights, including:
- The right to live
- The right to have a name and nationality
- The right to know and be cared for by parents
- The right to be ensured to the maximum extent possible for survival and development
- Development Rights, including:
- The right to healthcare and medical treatment
- The right to education and development of talent
- The right to play, recreation, cultural, and artistic activities appropriate to their age
- The right to freedom of belief and religion
- The right to access beneficial social and cultural information and materials for children
- The right to an adequate standard of living
- Protection Rights, including:
- The right to preserve cultural identity
- The right not to be separated from parents against the parents' will, except when it is in the best interest of the child
- The right not to be subjected to arbitrary or illegal interference with their privacy
- The right to social security, including social protection and other necessary measures
- The right to be protected against all forms of abuse, sexual exploitation, economic exploitation, kidnapping, trafficking, and harmful labor for their health
- The right to protection against drug use or being lured into drug production and trafficking
- The right to protection against torture, cruel treatment or punishment, and unlawful deprivation of liberty
- The right to protection from participation in hostilities before the age of 15
- Participation Rights, including:
- The right to form and freely develop their own views on matters affecting them
- The right to freely express opinions (not contrary to law)
- The right to freedom of association and peaceful assembly
