In March 2025, which days are employees in Vietnam entitled to fully paid days off?
According to Article 112 of the Labor Code 2019 stipulating holiday leave:
Article 112. Holiday leave
- Employees are entitled to paid leave on the following holidays:
a) New Year's Day: 1 day (January 1, Gregorian calendar);
b) Lunar New Year: 5 days;
c) Victory Day: 1 day (April 30, Gregorian calendar);
d) International Labor Day: 1 day (May 1, Gregorian calendar);
dd) National Day: 2 days (September 2, Gregorian calendar and 1 adjacent day before or after);
e) Hung Kings' Commemoration Day: 1 day (March 10, Lunar calendar).
- Foreign employees working in Vietnam, in addition to the holidays specified in Clause 1 of this Article, are entitled to an additional day off on their traditional New Year and their national day.
- Annually, based on actual conditions, the Prime Minister of the Government of Vietnam decides specifically the holiday leave specified in points b and dd of Clause 1 of this Article.
According to the above regulations, employees are entitled to paid leave on the following days:
- New Year's Day
- Lunar New Year
- Victory Day
- International Labor Day
- National Day
- Hung Kings' Commemoration Day
In addition, foreign employees working in Vietnam are entitled to an additional day off on their traditional New Year and their national day.
Thus, in March 2025, employees are entitled to paid leave on March 10 of the lunar calendar.
How many days of annual leave are employees in Vietnam entitled to?
In accordance with Article 113 of the Labor Code 2019 stipulating annual leave:
Article 113. Annual leave
- Employees who have worked for a full 12 months for an employer are entitled to annual leave, with full pay as stated in the labor contract, as follows:
a) 12 working days for employees in normal conditions;
b) 14 working days for minors, disabled employees, or those in physically demanding, toxic, or dangerous jobs;
c) 16 working days for employees in especially heavy, toxic, or dangerous occupations.
- Employees who have not worked a full 12 months for an employer shall be entitled to annual leave in proportion to the number of months worked.
- In case of resignation or job loss without having taken or fully taken annual leave, the employer shall pay salary for the untaken days.
- Employers are responsible for setting the annual leave schedule after consulting employees and must inform employees in advance. Employees may agree with employers to take annual leave in multiple periods or accumulate it for up to 3 years at a time.

According to the above regulations, the number of annual leave days for employees is as follows:
- 12 working days for employees in normal conditions

- 16 working days for employees in especially heavy, toxic, or dangerous occupations
In cases where employees have not worked a full 12 months for an employer, the number of annual leave days is proportional to the number of months worked.
Additionally, when employees have worked for 5 years for an employer, their annual leave days are increased by 1 day (Regulated in Article 114 of the Labor Code 2019).
