On November 3, 2023, the Government Office issued Official Dispatch 8662/VPCP-KGVX in 2023 conveying the opinion of the Prime Minister on the Tet holiday and the National Day holiday in 2024.
The National Day holiday on September 2, 2024 will be a four-day holiday, from August 31 to September 3.
Considering the proposal of the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs in Document No. 4594/LĐTBXH-ATLĐ dated October 27, 2023, proposing to take a break for the Lunar New Year and the National Day holiday in 2024, the Prime Minister has the following opinion:
1. Agree with the proposal of the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs in the above document to take a break for the Lunar New Year from February 8, 2024 to February 14, 2024 and the National Day holiday from August 31, 2024 to September 3, 2024.
2. Assign the Minister of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs to inform the administrative, vocational, political organizations, political-social organizations and enterprises, and workers about the Lunar New Year and the National Day holiday in 2024.
The Government Office announces this to the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs and the ministries and agencies to know and implement.
Therefore, the National Day holiday on September 2, 2024 will be a four-day holiday, from August 31, 2024 to September 3, 2024.

How is the salary of workers who go to work on the National Day holiday on September 2, 2024 in Vietnam calculated?
Pursuant to Article 98 of the Labor Code in 2019 stipulating overtime pay, night work pay as follows:
Overtime pay, night work pay
1. An employee who works overtime will be paid an amount based on the piece rate or actual salary as follows:
a) On normal days: at least 150%;
b) On weekly days off: at least 200%;
c) During public holidays, paid leave, at least 300%, not including the daily salary during the public holidays or paid leave for employees receiving daily salaries.
2. An employee who works at night will be paid an additional amount of at least 30% of the normal salary.
3. An employee who works overtime at night will be paid, in addition to the salary specified in Clause 1 and Clause 2 of this Article, an amount of at least 20% of the day work salary of a normal day, weekend or public holiday.
4. The Government shall elaborate this Article.
Pursuant to Article 112 of the Labor Code in 2019 stipulating public holidays as follows:
Public holidays
1. Employees shall be entitled to fully paid days off on the following public holidays:
...
d) International Labor Day: 01 day (the 1st of May of the Gregorian calendar);
dd) National Day: 02 days (the 2nd of September of the Gregorian calendar and the previous or next day);
...
Therefore, workers are entitled to a full salary for the National Day holiday on September 2. In the case of working on the National Day holiday on September 2, the salary of workers is calculated as follows:
In the case of working during the day, workers are entitled to at least 300% of their regular salary, not including the holiday salary for workers who are paid by the day.
In the case of working overtime at night:
- Working at night: workers are entitled to at least 30% of the salary calculated based on the unit wage or the actual salary paid for the work of a normal working day.
- Overtime work at night: workers are entitled to an additional 20% of the salary calculated based on the unit wage or the salary for the work done during the day of a non-working day.
Will there be fireworks at the National Day celebration on September 2, 2024 in Vietnam?
Pursuant to Clause 3 Article 11 of the Decree 137/2020/NĐ-CP stipulating cases in which fireworks are allowed as follows:
Cases in which fireworks are allowed
1. Lunar New Year
a) Central-affiliated cities and Thua Thien Hue Province may fire high-range and short-range fireworks for no longer than 15 minutes; other provinces may fire short-range fireworks for no longer than 15 minutes;
b) Time: Lunar New Year’s Eve.
2. Hung Kings Commemoration Day
a) Phu Tho Province may fire short-range fireworks for no longer than 15 minutes at Hung’s King Temple;
b) Time: 9 p.m. of March 9 of lunar calendar.
3. Independence Day
a) Central-affiliated cities and Thua Thien Hue Province may fire high-range and short-range fireworks for no longer than 15 minutes; other provinces may fire short-range fireworks for no longer than 15 minutes;
b) Time: 9 p.m. of September 2.

Therefore, on the National Day holiday on September 2, 2024, the central-affiliated cities and the province of Thua Thien Hue will be allowed to fire high-altitude and low-altitude fireworks, with a duration of no more than 15 minutes; the remaining provinces will be allowed to fire low-altitude fireworks, with a duration of no more than 15 minutes.
The firing time will be at 9:00 PM on September 2.
